“Regis Program” Bachelor of Science in Nursing as a Second Degree Course Due to the current increase in the demand of nurses, more and more students have opted to enter a BSN program. This is also true for college graduates from other courses that see promising careers as nurses. As a result, there has been a steady increase in the number of schools offering this program for college graduates intending to pursue a BSN program. The University Of Makati College Of Nursing offers a BSN program as a second course, for graduates from other programs, starting October 2003. This program has been aptly named after St. John Francis Regis who pursued theology after studying rhetoric, philosophy and teaching grammar for six years. St. Regis helped a group of country girls stay away from the perils of the cities by establishing them in a lace making embroidery trade. St. Regis worked tirelessly to provide food for the hungry and medical care for those in need despite entering his true vocation at a later period in his life. The Regis Program similarly aspires to provide a venue for graduates who have come to realize their true goals in Nursing, albeit belatedly. The curriculum developed for this preparatory course combines traditional and non-traditional subjects to maximize the learning potentials of the students in an atmosphere that encourages critical thinking and caring behaviors. The program is headed by nursing professionals with over twenty years of nursing expertise from all over the country and those with experience from first class hospitals around the world. The facilities and equipment are updated every six months to keep up with the modern trends in technology and health care. Perhaps the best feature however, is the unique and individualized program which the students will be undertaking. The approach to learning takes into consideration schedules, work experience and other factors which a typical undergraduate program lacks. A research based approach will be used to facilitate learning and simulate real work situations during the didactic phase that will help ease the transition from classroom to hospital environment.
